My dad's family is originally from Spain. The Pomales family is very large in numbers, my family live mostly in Guayama. Some left to the United States for a better opportunity. My mom's family I do not really know where they originaly live but more than half of my mom's family lives in the United States. My grandmother and my grandfather use to live in the United States and they later moved to Puerto Rico. My mom is actually was born in the United States. Both my mom's and dad's families are immigrants form different countries but I am proud to be a Puerto Rican and nothing can change that.

Italian Immigration Facts
Italian were among had the largest number of people moving to the United States than any other European country. Natural disasters, birthrates going up,poverty, and over populations were reasons on why Italians left to the United State. The government was mainly controlled by northerners many southern civilians were harshly taxed on any products. Southerners also suffered a lack of land to live and grow crops. Also they suffered soil erosion.
At first Italy's immigrants were mainly from the north. Later on many more immigrated form the south than in the from the north. The percent of Italian going back to their homes was from 11 percent to 73 percent. Most of the immigrants stayed in the United States. They mainly moved to big cities.
Italian immigrants focused mainly on moving to big cities because they did not want to farm. Most who moved form the north were merchants or wine growers. They mainly took heavy construction jobs, more than half of Italians immigrants were manual laborers. Italians dug tunnels, laid railroad tracks, constructed bridges and roads, and built the first skyscrapers.
I learned that it was tough for Italians to leave their homes, family, and friends behind to have a better life in the United States. They worked very hard to support their family and improve their lives. To be the first to actually build a skyscraper is very impressive. 90 percent of New York's workers were Italians.
